Where are the Best Family Photography Locations in Brisbane?

I’ve been asked this a number of times lately, so here is part 1 of a few different posts about where to find the best family photography locations in Brisbane.

Truthfully, good photography spots are everywhere, the trick is knowing what to look for. Hopefully I can help you out here on what to look for.

First location I go to is Mt Coot-Tha. OK, I may be biased here, after all it is in my back yard. But before you judge me, here are some of my reasons for me putting this in my top photography locations list.

Why I like Mount Coot-Tha for Family Photography Sessions?

Nature is everywhere

Firstly, its all pretty natural. There is no playgrounds to distract the children or to worry about editing out afterwards. Nature as a backdrop is probably the most serene view for the eye and there are lots of options here.

Lots of Options

There are so many little parks available. At my last session up there, we had chosen 1 location and when I arrived there was a big party happening there. I always arrive early for this reason, and fortunately I went for a drive, found the next little park along was empty and texted the family to let them know the change in location. Crisis averted.

Nature is Neutral

The backdrop is full of greens and browns which seems to match in with whatever the family is wearing. There is nothing much distracting in there and is mostly without a great deal of contrast.

Temperature

There is nothing worse than Brisbane heat and poor dad is sweating through his button up shirt. Up on top of Brisbane on Mt Coot-Tha there are beautiful breezes and loads of shaded spots. I find most people relax and enjoy the session

You Can Bring your Dog

This is the best reason! Dogs are a regular occurrence on Mt Coot-Tha, so if you have a four legged furry family member, bring them along. They are part of your family and need to be celebrated and documented.
