Its beautiful outside right now – not too cold, not too hot , light breezes, and beautiful colour everywhere.

Springtime is beautiful – and the perfect time to update your family portraits.  One of the biggest things I get asked when people book is what to wear.  This question is best answered by asking questions like, “how do you want to look on your wall?”

Formal is lovely, relaxed casual is beautiful.  Beach clothes at the beach – is fantastic.  Wear clothes that speak of who your family is.  For example, my husband doesn’t do a tie. Why would he wear one in our family portraits. My middle son however, he would be all over that tie like a rash.

Wear clothes that speak to who you are as a family, and then look at the aesthetics side of the portrait as to which pieces will work best.

The way I do it is simple, pick a colour.  Perhaps your daughter has a favourite dress from the past season which you would love to use in the session.  Use the colour of that dress and work your scheme around that.

Perhaps your husband or wife always wears navy.  Let them go with that, and pick colours that work alongside.  Bone/natural colours, maroon, denim etc.  and work it in.

Then of course, if you have chosen to have your images taken in front of your large bougainvillea which is all hot pink right now, best to steer away from the reds.  You do need to consider the environment as well.
