There are times in my job when my jaw drops over a really, simple portrait.
There is nothing mind blowing in this image, no unicorns and rainbows, just a classic black and white; a simple portrait of a 4 year old boy. But this one hits me emotionally. An image that make you realise you have just photographed an image of a boy, yet captured the essence of the man he will become. Steadfast, reliable, sensitive – none of this is possibly how mum and dad see him most of the time, but its there underneath, and I don’t doubt it comes out when they need it to. For the majority of the session I was running with this bundle of energy – that is half the fun. But, to turn that chaos into something emotional, sensitive and moving – now that is such an amazing thing.
