Another beautiful mum who deserves to be celebrated for Mothers Day.

This particular session was never meant to be about her.  The intention was for 1 year portraits and just little L on his own, however one of my favourite photographs from the session is this.

This is something I hear a lot – “I don’t need to be in them.” or “I don’t want photos of myself”.

So to the mum’s out there, the truth is, not being in photographs is doing such an injustice to your family.  Why wouldn’t they want gorgeous photos of the most important person in their life?  Why wouldn’t your children want that amazing expression of love on your face when you look at them, captured and lovingly displayed on the wall.  In years to come you won’t question the importance of capturing this time.   Of having it to reflect on when times are tough; to look back and remember the happiness oozing out of your soul when your now teenage son or daughter is trying your patience.  They need to see that love, and you need to see it too.

So rather than question whether you need to be in family photographs, maybe you should think, “How valued will this memory be in years to come?”

One of my favourite clients (happens to be this mum right here) said to me once, “Its weird, I look at his baby photos and they are more precious to me now than they were when I first saw them.”   Its not weird lovely lady, its life; it goes fast, and those precious smiles will stay with you forever.
